Enhance Your WebStore Navigation with Subcategories

Adding a third-level of navigation to your WebStore can often make it faster and easier for your customers to find products. Simplifying your WebStore can help turn visitors into buyers. The NitroSell Product Attribute Manager (NSc PAM) provides the ability to assign a web subcategories that provide an additional navigation drill-down beyond the RMS Department and Category structure.

Subcategory names can be entered into PAM and synced to your WebStore:

After your WebStore is enabled for third-level navigation in Web Store Manager (WSM), you’ll notice the Category will expand to reveal Sub-Categories in your Navigation Panel. For more information, see KB Article #277 – Setting up Sub-Categories (Third-Level Navigation).

Earlier NitroSell customers may have observed that expanded navigation could not be used if Sub-Categories were enabled, or vice-versa. This has been changed and corrected if you upgrade your WebStore to a more current version. Here’s an example of a retailer who has taken advantage of the new feature to display the expanded navigation as dynamic dropdowns instead of the default menu:

A key benefit of using Sub-Categories is that the customer gets a tighter grouping of fewer related items without having to sort through un-related items. For example, with this retailer, there are 43 products in the Ladies Jeans Category. By selecting a Ladies Jeans sub-category, the shopper has quicker, more direct access to the three items in the R & R Cowgirl sub-category.

Don’t forget – Sub-Categories have their own content pages that may be maintained with content and graphics in Web Store Manager (WSM) to provide a more persuasive user experience. In addition, each Sub-Category content page may have its own definable SEO attributes to help drive visibility to search engines.
